ISSUES & POLITICAL CONCERNS
Everyone deserves a fair chance to succeed. Our nation’s success is built on the founding principles of unlimited opportunity, quality education, commitment to hard work, and the freedom to pursue our dreams. Lisa fights each and every day to ensure that the community is advancing towards meeting these founding principles. Read on to learn about the issues at hand, and what is being done to combat them.
SECURE BORDERS & RESPONSIBLE, LEGAL IMMIGRATION
My cousin is a federal agent with I.C.E. and previously served with U.S. Customs & Border Patrol on the Arizona/Mexico border. I have heard the kitchen table stories of what our men and women who are “boots on the ground” face on our southern border. We must provide more funding, more manpower, repairs and physical barriers where needed.
Legal immigration is a cornerstone of this country. My mother is a legal immigrant from South Korea. We must have the courage to reform our current system, given our public safety and border security objectives. I advocate for a merit-based system that reduces delays for law abiding, work-oriented immigrants, while also eliminating taxpayer-funded incentives to either illegally cross our border or overstay a visa.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY, LOWER TAXES
“We are ecstatic about Ms. Sutton’s commitment to the taxpayers of Nevada.” – Grover Norquist, founder of Americans for Tax Reform (embed this link into the quote https://www.atr.org/lisa-song-sutton-makes-no-new-taxes-pledge-nv-04-race)
I have signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge and support no new tax increases on hardworking American citizens. When I started my bakery in 2012, I was able to do so here in Nevada due to our business-friendly environment. We must keep Nevada that way.
On the federal level, we must get our debt under control. As your next Congresswoman, I will fight for a Balanced Budget Amendment and I will most certainly not saddle future generations of Nevadans and Americans with unending debt.
ECONOMY & REGULATION
A strong economy is essential to American prosperity. In order to keep our economy strong and continue growth, we must get government out of the way of business. Reducing business-killing regulations and harmful taxes are what the community wants and needs.
SUPPORT OF OUR
My father always told me, “Don’t outsmart your common sense.” He is a Vietnam veteran and instilled in me a sense of duty and respect for our great country. I am and will continue to be a fierce advocate for our veterans and military families. My family understands firsthand the issues our veterans face with the current state of the VA Hospital. The men and women who have served our nation are the true heroes amongst us, and they deserve our unwavering appreciation and support.
Our infrastructure is crumbling. We need infrastructure spending to fix our roads, bridges, and highways, otherwise we are headed for an era of repair.
FULL 2ND AMENDMENT PROTECTION FOR
One of our most sacred rights that is enshrined in our Bill of Rights is our ability to protect ourselves and our families from those who seek to physically harm us. My father gave me my first shotgun when I was 9 years old. I learned firearm safety and firearm responsibility from an early age. Especially as a woman, I understand firsthand that a firearm is the most efficient way to equalize a life-threatening situation.
More restrictive gun laws and various proposed bans will have little impact on crime because, with history as our guide, they have had little impact when explored in the past. More restrictive gun laws don’t work because, by their very nature, criminals do not follow the law. Gun bans and restrictions disproportionally affect law-abiding citizens, disarming them so that they are more vulnerable to attacks by those who seek to do harm.
As your next Congresswoman, I will fight to protect the rights of all peaceful, law-abiding citizens.
